People
Who reads my message?
Every message is read by one of the two people who test and write for SmokyHQ:
- Marcus Reilly, head pitmaster & lead tester: smoker, pellet, charcoal and kamado reviews; smoking and cooking technique guides.
- Tom Bricker, consumer research analyst & lead tester: gas, portable, electric and flat-top reviews; price-tier buying guides; maintenance and troubleshooting.
Questions about a review go to the tester who wrote it. Corrections go to the fact-checker on that article as well, so two people look at every report.
What to expect
What happens after I write?
- 1
It reaches a person. Every message is read by our testers. There’s no outsourced support desk and no automated replies pretending to be people.
- 2
It goes to the right tester. Questions about a review are passed to the tester who wrote it, so the answer comes from the person who cooked on the grill.
- 3
Errors are checked first. Correction reports are checked against our test notes and the manufacturer’s documentation before anything else.
- 4
You hear back. We reply to review questions and correction reports. If we fix something you reported, we’ll tell you what changed.
Reader requests
How do I suggest a grill to test?
Reader requests shape what we test next. When you suggest a grill, it helps to tell us:
- The exact model name, because many grills have near-identical variants.
- What you’d use it for: weeknight grilling, smoking, a small balcony, camping or feeding a crowd.
- The grills you’re comparing it with, so we can tell you whether one we’ve already tested fits.
We prioritize grills that many readers ask about and models that fill a gap in a category or a buying guide. If we’ve already reviewed a close alternative, we’ll point you to it straight away.
Good to know
What can’t you help with?
- Warranty claims or returns — contact the manufacturer or retailer directly.
- Order or delivery problems — contact the retailer you bought from.
- Paid reviews, paid placements or changing a verdict for payment.
- Guest posts or link insertions — we don’t accept them.

FAQ
Common questions
01How quickly will I get a reply?
02What should I include when reporting an error?
Send the page link, the exact sentence or number you think is wrong, and where the correct information comes from — ideally the manufacturer’s spec page or manual. That lets us check it quickly and fix it with a note on the page.
03Can you recommend a grill for my situation?
Yes. Tell us how many people you cook for, your budget, the space you have and whether you want to smoke, sear or both. We will point you to the reviews and buying guides that fit, rather than a single product we are paid for.
04Do you accept free products, sponsored posts or guest articles?
No. We buy every grill we review with our own money and don’t accept free samples or loaners. We also don’t publish sponsored posts, guest articles or paid links. Brands can suggest a grill, but that doesn’t guarantee a review, a score or a preview.
